Message from the Directors May 2010
The year thus far has been full of activity at IN-CAM as we completed the first annual Canadian CAM Research Fund competition and are now moving full swing into preparing for the 6th IN-CAM Research Symposium this fall. In partnership with the Holistic Health Research Foundation of Canada, the first annual Canadian CAM Research Fund (CCRF) competition was successfully launched. In response to the call for proposals for the 2009 competition, we received a large number of high quality research proposals from researchers, graduate students, and research-clinicians from across Canada. The proposals covered a broad range of topics, indicating how the CAM and IHC research field is growing and developing and the on-going need to continue supporting and funding research activities. Based on the reviews of invited External Reviewers and the CCRF Review Committee, four recipients of the CCRF grants were selected and announced in March 2010. For further information, please visit the CCRF webpage. The second annual CCRF competition will be announced in the fall of 2010 and we strongly invite you to submit your research proposal. The 6th IN-CAM Research Symposium is scheduled to take place November 19-21, 2010 in Vancouver BC at the Sutton Place Hotel. The theme for this Symposium is: Complementary and Integrative Health Care: Methodological, Theoretical and Practical Issues
Information on the Symposium is now available on the IN-CAM website. All updates related to the Symposium will be communicated with our membership via the IN-CAM Newsflash. To receive the IN-CAM newsflash, you must be an IN-CAM member.Important dates to make note of: In addition to the research-focused Symposium program, we will be hosting a Friday Night Public Event in recognition of the recipients of the 2009 Dr. Roger Roger’s Prize – Dr. Hal Gunn and Dr. Badri Rickhi. Beginning with a welcome reception, we will have the opportunity to hear from the experiences of these two outstanding physicians, who are making significant contributions to the development of the Integrative Health Care and CAM field. Following each talk, there will be a question and answer period during which time the audience will be invited to engage in further discussion with Dr. Gun and Dr. Rickhi. This event is free and open to Symposium participants and to the public. We would greatly appreciate your assistance in circulating the information about the Friday Night Public Event and extending the invitation to your clients, patients, colleagues, and friends. If you are interested in posting information in your office or clinic regarding this event, please contact our Symposium Coordinator: Ania Kania We hope that the resources compiled and made available on the IN-CAM website continue to be useful and provide the necessary information for IN-CAM members to remain informed and up to date on the developments and activities in the CAM research field. As always, we welcome and invite your input and suggestions on upcoming research events and courses, collaborative research and work opportunities, and funding resources. Please submit information or inquiries to info@incamresearch.ca. Heather Boon and Marja Verhoef IN-CAM Co-Directors |
